History of Theresa
The school was started in the year AD for several Catholic students. At St. Theresa's Convent in 1924.In 1926, the school was built under the leadership of Rev. Vanostant .The first principal of this school was Sister Aloysius.
With the increase in the number of students, a two storied building with an assembly hall was constructed in 1928. From the inception of the school Ambalangoda, Wathugedara, Balapitiya, Kosgoda, Elpitiya. The students have come from Pitigala, Omattha and Avittawa villages.
The upper floor of the two-story building was used as a hostel. Students of various denominations and nationalities have come from Ja-Ela, Negombo, Colombo and received residential education.
This school was taken over by the government on 04.04.1962 and after that it was renamed as St. Theresa Balika Maha Vidyalaya. When the government took over, the principal was Sister Meri Rose. The Principal from 1963-1965 was the Rev. Sister Mary Rita Rose. GCE A / L was started in 1963.
The college now has 850 students and has a staff of 42. The aesthetic sector is also nurtured in all areas of art, dance, drama and theatrical arts, and music.
